    Open the Google Wallet app or download it on Google Play.

    Tap ‘Add to Wallet’ and follow the instructions.

How to make purchases with Google Pay 

  • In stores 

    • Step 1: Look for the contactless payments or Google Pay symbols on display at checkout3.
    • Step 2: Unlock your phone and hold it to the contactless payment terminal.
    • Step 3: Follow any prompts and confirm your purchase.

  • Online and in-app

    • Step 1: Look for the Google Pay or Buy with Google Pay button at checkout.
    • Step 2: Once you’ve selected Google Pay as your payment method, select the card you'd like to pay with, or add a payment card.
    • Step 3: Confirm your purchase.

Where you can use Google Pay

Use Google Pay at participating merchants where they accept contactless payments or Google Pay. Just look for one of these symbols at checkout.

  • Step 1: On your Android smartwatch, open the Google Pay app and tap 'Get Started'.

    Step 2: Set up screen lock if you haven't already.

    Step 3: Follow the onscreen instructions to add your eligible MBNA credit card. Please note that you will have to agree to terms of use and provide your consent as part of set up.

    If only one payment card is added in the Google Pay app, it will automatically become your default card. If you have multiple payment cards, you can choose which card to use as a default card.

    To make your MBNA credit card your default card:

    1. Open the Google Pay app on your Android device.
    2. Tap and choose your MBNA credit card.
    3. Tap ‘Set as default card’.

    If you are experiencing issues with adding your MBNA credit card to Google Pay, here are some steps you can follow: 

    • Check your MBNA credit card to make sure you have entered your card details correctly
    • Check that your device is compatible with Google Pay 
    • Update your device to the latest version of Android
    • Make sure you are in a supported country or region

    Lost or stolen MBNA credit card
    If you think you've misplaced your MBNA credit card, lock it in the MBNA Mobile App and unlock when you've found it. (Please note, if you lock your MBNA credit card account in the MBNA Mobile App, you can't make new purchases, take out cash advances or request balance transfers. However, pre-authorized payments will still go through, and you can still return purchases and get credits and refunds using this card.)

    If your card or other credit device is lost, stolen, or misplaced, contact us immediately at 1-888-876-6262 to deactivate your card from use. Customer Service associates are standing by 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

    Lost or stolen Google Pay device 
    You must call us at 1-888-876-6262 to deactivate your MBNA credit card on Google Pay.

  • Your MBNA credit card will remain active and available for purchases using Google Pay until the date of expiry on your plastic card. You will be mailed a new card which must be activated in order for it to be used. Once activated, your new card will be ready to use in Google Pay automatically.

    All MBNA Mastercard credit cards in Canada which are in good standing are eligible for use Google Pay.

    Google Pay works with your MBNA credit card in eligible countries and regions that support contactless payments.

    Note: Additional fees may be charged for wireless data or foreign transactions.

    There are several reasons why your MBNA credit card may be declined with Google Pay:

    • You have reached the credit limit for your card or there is limit on the transaction amount  
    • There may be a problem with Google Pay or your device which is preventing transactions from going through. Ensure your device is updated to the latest version of Android and you have cleared the cache on your device
    • You are not in a supported country or region 
    • The merchant terminal does not support contactless payments
    • Check the Google Play help page for more support for fixing Google pay issues
