MBNA Alerts

What are MBNA Threshold Alerts?

Starting in April, 2022, MBNA Threshold Alerts will be sent to you when the available credit on your credit card account falls below a specific alert threshold amount. These alerts keep you informed and may help you avoid certain account fees.

How MBNA Threshold Alerts work

We'll send MBNA Threshold Alerts by text, email or both depending on your notification settings. If we don't have your Canadian mobile number or email address, we won't send you these alerts. However, if you give us your contact information at a later time, we will send them in the future. You can opt out of receiving these alerts at any time.

  • MBNA Threshold Alerts are sent automatically
Until you change your notification settings, we’ll send you these alerts by text message if we have your Canadian mobile number, otherwise we’ll send them by email if we have your email address.
  • Default alert threshold amount is $100
If you don't set an alert threshold amount, it is automatically set at $100.
  • Managing your notification settings
You can change how we send you MBNA Threshold Alerts any time in My MBNA Alerts within MBNA Online Banking.
  • Setting and changing your alert threshold amounts
You can set and change alert threshold amounts in MBNA Online Banking for each MBNA Credit Card you hold with us. Consider your credit limit and typical account balance when setting your alert threshold amounts.

Opt out of MBNA Threshold Alerts at any time

You can opt out of MBNA Threshold Alerts for any one or all of your credit card accounts. If you choose to opt out, we won't send you these alerts.

  1. Log in to MBNA Online Banking

  2. Go to My Profile, select My MBNA Alerts then select Manage your MBNA Alert Notification Settings

  3. Select Edit all MBNA Alerts where you can review your alert notification settings and unselect both text and email message options for each of your credit card accounts

For more ways to opt out, refer to the question How do I opt out of MBNA Threshold Alerts?

How to identify MBNA Threshold Alerts

  1. Email alerts will be sent from MBNATH@mbna.ca

  2. Text alerts will be sent from short code 83222. A short code is a special phone number used to send and receive text messages. MBNA uses 5 digit short codes when sending text messages

  3. This short code and email address are only used for MBNA Threshold Alerts and not for any other types of alerts (e.g. MBNA Credit Card Overlimit Notifications, MBNA Fraud Alerts)

  4. You can visit the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) website at https://www.txt.ca/en/current-short-code-programs/ to validate that the short code is registered to MBNA

Questions You May Have

We send MBNA Threshold Alerts to Primary Cardholders. We won't send these alerts to Authorized Users.

We will send you an MBNA Threshold Alert when the available credit on your MBNA credit card account falls below the alert threshold amount. Please keep in mind the following:

  • If you continue to stay below your alert threshold amount, we won't send additional alerts. However, if at a later time you go above your alert threshold amount and then fall back below it, we will send a new MBNA Alert
  • If you update your alert threshold amount and the change results in the available credit on your credit card falling below the alert threshold amount, we will not send you an MBNA Threshold Alert
  • In some cases, you may receive two alerts for the same transaction. If you wish to confirm the transaction, log in to MBNA Online Banking or the MBNA app, or call us for further assistance

There are different ways you can opt out of MBNA Threshold Alerts. We recommend using MBNA Online Banking to opt out as this allows you to manage all of your alerts at the same time for all the credit cards you have with MBNA.

In MBNA Online Banking:

  • Log in to MBNA Online Banking
  • Go to My Profile and select My MBNA Alerts
  • Select Edit all MBNA Alerts where you can review your alert notification settings and unselect both text and email message options for each of your credit card accounts

From text and email alerts:

  • You can opt out by text/email only after you receive an alert. Reply STOP to a text alert and select 'Opt out' at the bottom of an email alert
  • If you have replied STOP to an MBNA Threshold Alert, we'll stop sending you text alerts to your mobile phone. For example, if you have two or more MBNA personal credit cards you will no longer receive additional text alerts for all your credit card products. This applies if you select 'Opt out' for email as well
  • Opting out applies only to the mobile number or email address where you received the alert. If you change your contact details with us in the future, we will start sending alerts to your new mobile number/email as they will not be on our 'opt out' list

MBNA Threshold Alerts are not encrypted or password protected and never include a link to MBNA Online Banking. We only include a minimal amount of personal and account information in these alerts.

  • Alerts sent by text message will only display the last 2 digits of your credit card account number (e.g. XX34)
  • Alerts sent by email will only display your name (first, middle and last) and the last 4 digits of your credit card account number (e.g. 1234)
